About the Webinar
South Asia Students For Liberty is
organising a Samvad on Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite.
Date: 25th August 2020
Time: 5:00 PM
Last date to register: 22nd August 2020
Note: The Samvad is for free.
- A Samvad is a space where you can put your
thoughts and ideas in front of an audience which is willing to hear,
reciprocate, and contemplate.
- Set in modern Seoul, the movie is a nuanced
allegory depicting two extreme ends of the socio-economic spectrum and the
consequences that ensue. Bong’s message seems to be that there are
consequences to our obscene division of wealth and labour. In his account,
though, it’s inevitable that the parasites will bleed most.
- Who the titular parasites really are, has
been a constant point of debate.
- Is Bong Joon Ho’s lauded Oscar favourite really
the scathing critique of capitalism it is made out to be or is it merely a
shrug over inequality? Is socialism really the solution to the problems
highlighted in this story? How?
