About Organization 

Legal zems is a law aspirants led organization formulated with a vision of providing the platform for the youth to inculcate leadership skills and emerge as a strong personality who can stand with a strong opinion in the society. We at legal zems promotes mutual growth and development. We believe that knowledge is the fundamental in shaping tomorrow’s future and achieving uniform growth across region. The youth is the backbone of the nation. We are the ones that leads our country towards prosperity and growth. The change we ought to bring begins with ourselves. Our aim is to built a platform which encourages educating masses about the aspect of law and importance of law in the society. Meaning and dynamics of justice have been evolving over time and new dimensions of human wants, rights, equality and deprivation have been added to the narratives of law and policies. 

Legal zems proudly announce an event, which is one of its own kind, an event never happened before in the entire legal fraternity.

Rules, Procedure and Guidelines of the Competition 

1. The competition is open for students who are studying ll.b. three year or ll.b. 5 year course during the current academic year 2019-20. 

2. Each participating team shall comprise of two members (first designation- advocate; second designation - researcher) 

3. Award of best researcher will be given on the basis of marks 

4. Arguments shall be in English language only 

5. Each participant shall be provided with a participant code by the organizing committee which shall be mentioned on the front page of the bail application. 

6. There will be no substitution of team member after a team has submitted its registration form, except with the permission of the organizers. 

7. Cancellation of participation shall not be allowed to any team whatever the scenario might be. 

8. Registration fee will be non-refundable and non-transferable. 

9. Organizing committee reserves the right to amend rules, guidelines etc. The organizers shall not be responsible for any loss or slow internet connection during the competition. We request all the participants to arrange a sound internet connection. 

10. Dress code for the competition shall be formals only.

Proposition 



Registration Process

1. Teams are supposed to complete their registration by 13 oct, 2020 by 23:59 hours IST. 

2. The registration fee is Rs. 700. The registration shall be done by filling up the application form, available:

3. The number of participating teams is limited and hence, the registrations will be done on first come first serve basis. 

4. The registration shall be deemed completed only when the registration fee has been remitted successfully and the application form is duly filled. 

5. Once the application form is filled, the oc shall send a confirmation mail to the teams [within 24 hours of registration]. 

Bail Application 

1. Bail application submission is to be done for both the sides. 

2. Bail application submission is to be done by 16th oct 2020 11:59 p.m. 

3. The bail application shall be strictly in the form of application, consisting of minimum 3-4 pages. 

4. The bail application may be supported by a separate compendium of judgments (the first page of judgment and the relevant extract). The bail application & compendium is to be submitted in both pdf and word format. The file of bail application and compendium shall be saved with the name of team code only. 

5. Bail application shall be submitted on : legalzems@gmail.com please note that no hard copies are to be submitted. 

6. Any bail application submitted after the deadline is subjected to penalty for late submission. 

7. The bail application must contain cover page. 

8. The cover page shall include: 

I. The name of the court 

Ii. The year of the competition 

Iii. The name of the case 

Iv. The name of the parties 

V. Team code to be indicated at the top right corner in bold. (for example-lz-p011 andlz-d011) which shall be intimated to the respective teams. 

9. The teams should use the 19th blue book edition for footnotes throughout the bail application. 

10. Formatting specifications 

For main text 

A) font type: times new roman 

B) font size: 12 

C) line spacing: 1.5 

D) body of text: justified 
For heading 

A) font type: times new roman 

B) font size: 14 

For cover page 

A) font type: times new roman 

B) font size: 16 

11. The contents of the bail application should not be plagiarized (20% limit) or else it will amount to total deduction of bail application marks or disqualification. The decision of the organizers shall be final.

Structure of Competition 

1. The preliminary round (2 round) 

2. The semi final round (8 teams will be selected ) 

3. The final round (4 teams) (2 teams from prosecution side and 2 teams from defense side) 
The Prelims Round 

Each team shall be given total of 10 minutes to argue for the bail application. The side for each round shall be allotted by the organizing committee only. Any exceeding the allotted time will lead to deduction of 0.25 marks per minute. However extension of time is permissible at the discretion of the judges. Strict adhering to court manners shall be observed by all the participants. 
Role of Researcher 

Researcher of each team shall be question by the judges on the basis of bail application. The answer given by the researcher shall be marked for the position of best researcher in every round. 

Judging Criteria

  • vocabulary skills and speaking skills:- 20
  • Court ethics and time management:- 20
  • Ingenuity and ability to answer questions of researcher:- 20
  • Application of law:- 20
  • Knowledge of law and proposition:- 20

The Semi Final Round 

Top 8 team who so ever scored the highest marks in both of the prelims round shall be qualified for the semi final round. Out of which 4 team shall be from prosecution side and other 4 team shall be of defendant side. 

Each team shall be given total of 15 minutes to argue for the bail application. The side for each round shall be allotted by the organizing committee only. Any exceeding the allotted time will lead to deduction of 0.25 marks per minute. However extension of time is permissible at the discretion of the judges. Strict adhering to court manners shall be observed by all the participants. 
Role of researcher

Researcher of each team shall be question by the judges on the basis of bail application. The answer given by the researcher shall be marked for the position of best researcher in every round.

Awards

1. Best prosecutor: Rs. 1,300/- (one thousand three hundred only) and certificate and trophy. 

2. Best defense: Rs. 1300/- (one thousand three hundred only) and certificate and trophy 

3. Best researcher: Rs. 900/- (nine hundred only) and certificate and trophy 

4. Certificate of participation: e-certificate of participation shall be provided to all the participants who will be submitting the bail application.
