First-day Formalities, Infrastructure, First Impression

Since mine was an online internship, there weren’t any formalities. I was allotted work pertaining to legal research on the first day itself.

Main Tasks

I assisted our managing partner Ms Alkanshree Dahar with international Arbitration matter conducted under ICC Rules on behalf of Steel Authority of India, which was before Justice (Retd.) A. K. Patnaik of the Hon’ble Supreme Court. It was a great learning experience as I saw many senior lawyers dealing with the matter with professional expertise and acumen.I have also assisted Alkanshree Ma’am with assignments from Gianni-Origoni-Grippo law firm in Milan and Howard Kennedy in London.

The work included legal research, preparing case notes, assisting in drafting petitions, proofreading, drafting sale deed, General Power of Attorney.

The area of work involved a diverse range of laws such as Company law, Law of Contract,Arbitration and Conciliation Act ,1996, Hindu Law, Limitation Act 1963, Civil Procedure Code and Indian Penal Code.

Work Environment

The work environment is very conducive. I was always assigned work and never felt out of place. The manner of instructions is very succinct and clear. Even if I had to ask again to understand something Alkanshree Ma’am was very patient in explaining the same.

Good Things

The overall experience has been great. If one wants to get exposure in international arbitration then this is the right place wherein you can learn how to draft petitions, do legal research, etc.

I had a great experience as an intern under the supervision of Alkanshree Dahar, who is the managing partner at Law Offices of India and is heading the firm’s international arbitration and litigation practice. She is one of the nicest people I have met and her razor-sharp legal acumen is highly admirable.

Even though it was an online internship I got to attend various arbitration proceedings, attend client meetings on zoom and WhatsApp call. This helped me personally save a lot of time in traveling and ensure work-life balance without compromising on the nature and productivity of work.
