Gender Mainstreaming Internship (NRM and Biodiversity)

About the Project

UNDP has adopted Gender Equality Strategy 2018-2021, which commits the organization to intensify its efforts to mainstream gender equality across all of its areas of work. In particular, the strategy is focused on removing structural barriers to women’s economic empowerment; preventing and responding to gender-based violence; promoting women’s participation and leadership in all forms of decision-making; and strengthening gender-responsive strategies in crisis prevention, preparedness, and recovery, including climate change.

UNDP India is working to its best ability to support various Ministries, donors, partners, projects, and state teams across the country on mainstreaming gender and social concerns in various Natural Resource Management Projects.

The intern will be responsible for mainstreaming gender and social concerns in the Natural Resource Management Projects by preparing project gender action plans and supporting state teams in the implementation of the same.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the guidance of Livelihoods & Gender Specialist, NRM & Biodiversity, UNDP India the intern will have the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Support in preparation of gender action plans that include gender mainstreaming strategies, stakeholder analysis, gendered monitoring, and evaluation plans for the NRM projects specifically in the India High Range Mountain Landscape Project
  • Contributing to capacity development of other team members on gender mainstreaming & social inclusion
  • Supporting state project teams in developing gendered monitoring and evaluation plans for specific livelihood & conservation activities
  • Contribute and guide state project teams in mainstreaming gender concerns in the NRM projects by helping them preparing and implementing state/project-specific gender action plans
  • Providing inputs on different project documents that includes periodic project reports, monitoring & evaluation reports- baseline, midterm, and end-term evaluation reports; different project-specific studies for incorporating gender concerns
  • Supporting other project team members such as communications in developing and documenting women-centric case studies & developing gender-sensitive communication documents
  • Any other task as advised by the team

Eligibility

Applicants to the UNDP internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) on the relevant subjects such as Gender Studies
  • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) on the relevant subject such as gender studies
  • Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in the above two points)
  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate professional traineeship program and undertake the internship as part of this program

Skills Required

  • Excellent understanding of gender development & mainstreaming & have the understanding to analyze gender concerns in natural resources and food security issues such as climate change.
  • Good understanding of issues such as national and international policy analysis, gender in health, domestic violence, etc.
  • Experience of working with/volunteering with research institutes/civil society organizations on gender research projects/implementing or evaluating gender projects would be preferred.
  • Ability to produce quality documents with a quick turnaround time.
  • Experience in writing blogs, features, articles & documenting gender-specific case studies would be an asset.
  • Good team player and ability to adapt to change in the work environment.

Language Requirements

Fluency in English, while understanding Hindi is desirable

    • Proof of medical and life/accident insurance valid for the location in which the internship will be carried out. Selected interns must have medical and life insurance.

Stipend

  • Interns may be given a stipend according to UNDP Internship Policy, if it is not financially supported by any institution or programme, such as a university, government foundation or scholarship programme.
  • A stipend intended to help cover basic daily expenses related to the internship, such as meals and transportation at the duty station.
  • The stipend will be paid on a monthly basis and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.
