About GMU
GMU is an endeavor by the Gujarat Maritime Board (GMB), the state regulator for ports and maritime activities in Gujarat. The University has been conceived by visionaries to address the burgeoning need for a skilled workforce in the ever-changing dynamics of the maritime sector.
The University commenced its academic journey
in 2019 with the establishment of its first School - School of Maritime Law,
Policy & Administration (SMLPA), which offers LL.M and Post Graduate
Diploma programs in Maritime Law and International Trade Law. In pursuit of
creating an institution of global standards, GMU has collaborated with internationally
prominent institutions like Erasmus University and STC International. Many more
such alliances shall be forged in time to come.
About the GMU Academy on International
Fisheries Law
International Fisheries Laws encompass regulations that
govern the management, conservation, and responsible use of global fisheries
resources. They address issues such as sustainable fishing practices,
cooperation among nations, conservation of marine ecosystems, and the
prevention of overfishing to ensure the long-term viability of fisheries.
GMU Academy on
International Fisheries Law aims to impart a thorough understanding of global
fisheries management regulations. It covers international agreements,
regulations, and practices promoting sustainable fishing. The workshop
addresses critical topics related to fisheries conservation, management, and
global promotion of responsible fishing practices, etc.
Sessions will be taken by some of the leading Fisheries Law
experts from both India and abroad. In the past, GMU has successfully organized
four editions of Academy to date. The first two editions of GMU Academy were on
Maritime Labor Law. The third edition was related to Oceans Law and Policy. The
last edition was organized in December 2022, and it was on Admiralty Law.
Significance of the Course
GMU Academy aims to advance knowledge and positively
influence society by focusing on the current legal framework concerning
International Fisheries Law. This program will provide participants with
insights into contemporary and advanced matters related to International
Fisheries Law, making it valuable for individuals aspiring to specialize in maritime
and fisheries sectors. The event caters to those interested in understanding
the present legal landscape of International Fisheries Law and its associated complexities.
