About the University Institute of Legal Studies

University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) was established as the constituent department of Panjab University, in the academic session 2004-05. The Institute also exposes its students to the ‘law in action’ through compulsory internships with Hon’ble Judges of the Supreme Court, Punjab and Haryana High Court, eminent lawyers, legal firms, various commissions, and NGOs, etc, The Institute’s Legal Aid Clinic, which provides free legal services to the economically weaker sections of the society as a part of the community outreach program of the Institute, also offers opportunities to the students to work in coordination with practicing lawyers.


About Society for Quiz

The Society for Quiz is a constituent society of the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The Society owes its existence to the vital role played by the quizzes in the learning process. Considering how promising the quizzes are in terms of expanding the horizons of one’s knowledge and improving the efficiency of the mind, the Society is completely devoted to organizing various types of quizzes throughout the year, both online and offline. Furthermore, believing in the potential of a quiz as an activity to raise general awareness, the Society is also unrestricted in its choice of topics for the quizzes and is not limited merely to the topics of the law.


About CivilSavvy 1.0

CivilSavvy: Empowerment through knowledge, the catalyst for change is a thrilling event that tests participants’ knowledge and understanding of diverse subjects relevant to the UPSC exams. Competitors engage in a battle of wits, tackling questions on history, geography, politics, economics, and current affairs.

With each round, the intensity heightens as contestants demonstrate their grasp of intricate details and broad concepts crucial for civil service aspirants. The competition serves not only as a platform for intellectual exchange but also as a means to sharpen analytical skills and enhance familiarity with UPSC exam content. The topics are covered in such a manner that teams from not only law backgrounds but also studying in any field can participate.


Mode of Event

  • The Preliminary round will be conducted online through the Autoproctor for which links will be shared in the WhatsApp Group made for the purpose after the registration.
  • The Semi-Final Round and Final Round will be conducted offline at the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
  • No accommodation will be provided for the same, however, other food and transport services shall be made available. *Subject to the discretion of the organizing committee.

Eligibility

  • The competition is open to all students pursuing a Bachelor’s/Master’s/PG Degree or any certificate course from any University/College/Institute.
  • Participation shall be only allowed in a team. Each team should comprise two participants.
  • Two participants registering as a single team shall be from the same institute/college/department.
  • No restriction on the number of entries from one University/College/Institute.

Theme

A cumulative theme for a UPSC quiz integrates various subjects and topics candidates study for the exam. It includes interdisciplinary connections, policy analysis, comparative studies, problem-solving, historical perspectives, global context, ethical dilemmas, and innovation. This approach challenges candidates to synthesize knowledge, think critically, and apply their understanding to real-world scenarios, reflecting the complexity of the UPSC exam.


Event Guidelines

Preliminary round (round 1)

  • Round 1 will be held on March 3rd, 2024 at 6:00 pm.
  • All the competing teams are required to attempt Round 1 of the quiz through the mode of Autoproctor.
  • The Round will consist of 75 Multiple Choice Questions for which 1 mark is to be awarded for each correct answer and 0.25 marks shall be deducted for every wrong answer.
  • 35 minutes shall be given for this round.
  • From the team of 2, one participant is required to attempt the quiz. In case, if both the participants attempt the round, the response submitted earlier shall be considered.
  • The team who submits the quiz earlier will be preferred in case of a tie between participants.
  • The quiz will be proctored and the organizing team will be notified as regards any use of unfair means for cheating. Any team practicing the same shall be disqualified. PRELIMINARY ROUND: (ROUND-1)
  • The result of the same will be declared on March 4th, 2024.
  • The top 12 teams will qualify for the next round i.e. The Semi[1]Final Round.

Semi-final round

  • Round 2 will be held on 14th March,2024.
  • 12 top scoring teams qualifying in Round 1 will be eligible for this round which is to be held in an offline mode at the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh. *No accommodation will be provided for the same, however, food shall be made available.

This round will be conducted into 5 sub-rounds which can be any of the following:

  • Buzzer round
  • Ask the Question round
  • Throw the dart and answer the round.
  • Identify the picture/video/audio round.
  • Identify and Mark it Round
  • One word Answer round
  • This round will consist of 45-50 questions and the marking scheme will be informed prior to the round.
  • It will be an interactive round. The questions would vary from moderate to tough level and will be an intellect-based quiz. The top 7 scoring teams will qualify for finals.

Final round

  • Round 3 will be held on 15th March,2024.
  • 7 top scoring teams from round 2 will qualify for this round and it will be held in an offline mode at the University Institute of Legal Studies, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
  • This round will be conducted into 5 sub-rounds which can be any of the following:
    • Buzzer round
    • Ask the Question round
    • Throw the dart and answer the round.
    • Identify the picture/video/audio round.
    • Identify and Mark it Round
    • One-word Answer round.
  • This round will consist of 45-50 questions and the marking scheme will be informed before the round.
  • It will be an interactive round. The questions would vary from moderate to tough level and will be an intellect-based quiz

Dress Code

  • Participants are required to be well-dressed in formal attire.
  • The attire should be such that it is socially acceptable.

General Guidelines

  • The Semi-Final and Final Rounds will be held in offline mode at the venue mentioned above; therefore, participants are required to be assured of their physical presence at the venue before the commencement of the event. Failure to mark presence in due time would result in disqualification of the team.
  • Every participant should be present at the venue at least 30 (thirty) minutes before the competition starts. We do not compromise any tardiness. If the participant fails to reach the venue on time, then the organizer will decide unilaterally to disqualify the participant from the competition.
  • During the competition, Participants are expected to maintain the decorum and sanctity of the house.
  • It is mandatory for the participant to carry along his Student ID card as it is mandatory at the time of registration.
  • During the competition, the registered participant cannot be represented by anyone else proxy shall be allowed.
  • Use of Unfair Means would lead to disqualification of the team. Furthermore, all perks would be forfeited. *Subject to the discretion of the organizing committee.
  • Throughout the competition, the decision of the organizers shall be binding and conclusive.
  • No correspondence in this regard shall be entertained.
  • Any ambiguity or dispute that may arise during the event shall be handled and resolved at the discretion of the organizers.

Prizes

  • Winners: Cash prize + Certificate of Commendation + Trophy
  • 1st Runners up: Cash prize +Certificate of Commendation + Trophy
  • 2nd Runners up: Cash prize+ Certificates of Commendation + Trophy
  • Next Top 9 Participants: Mementos & Certificates of Merit.
  • All participants will be provided with a Certificate of Participation.

Important Dates

  • 20th February 2024: Release of Rulebook and Registration form
  • 1st March 2024: Last Date of Registration
  • 3rd March, 2024: Preliminary Round (Round 1)
  • 4th March 2024: Results for Round 1
  • 14th March, 2024: Semi- Final Round (Round 2)
  • 15th March, 2024: Final Round (Round 3)
  • 16th March, 2024: Valedictory Ceremony.

Registration Fee

  • Registration fees: Rs. 500 /- per team
  • Registration link: Participants are requested to register once. Multiple entries from the same team shall not be entertained.
  • Registration confirmation shall be subject to the receipt of registration fees by the organizers.
  • The confirmation mail for registration will be sent within 24 hours of the registration and payment of the fee.
  • Registration once confirmed shall not be cancelled in any case. Fees once paid shall not be refunded. No correspondence in this regard shall be entertained
