About the Opportunity

The Legal Counsel is responsible for ensuring that the organization’s operations are conducted in compliance with legal requirements, company policies, and ethical business practices.

The Legal Counsel acts as a business partner; provides legal support and advice across various departments and IMC entities.

The legal counsel will help the firm keep pace with advancing operations by thinking out of the box, being able to work in a rapidly changing environment, and not shying away from getting hands dirty.

Responsibilities

  • Advising Trading, Technology, and Business Support on financial laws and regulations as well as exchange rulebooks;
  • Responding to inquiries made by exchanges or regulators;
  • Collaborating with local Compliance and other functions to ensure correct interpretation and implementation of laws and regulations;
  • Collaborating with Legal & Compliance from other offices to design and enhance global standards (eg policies, training).
  • Analyzing regulatory developments that have an impact on the markets and the products that we trade and IMC as a whole to identify both risks and opportunities;
  • Advise new business project teams on regulatory aspects, working closely with the teams at other IMC offices;
  • Assist with regulatory assessments and regulatory audits;
  • Represent IMC towards exchanges, regulators, and industry associations.
  • Negotiating and drafting contracts and agreements.

Eligibility

  • LL. B with 6-10 years of experience in financial markets and regulatory compliance
  • Demonstrable knowledge of and expertise in Regulatory Financial Law (most notably SEBI and NSE) and Contract Law. Knowledge of labour and privacy law is a plus
  • Broad interest in trading & technology and market structures;
  • Basic knowledge of proprietary trading/market making is preferred;
  • Structured and pragmatic in problem-solving and to the point in communication;
  • Responsible self-starting professional with excellent analytical skills and drive for results;
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills in English
  • Excellent contract drafting skills
